Winter & Spring 2012 Programme   (7:30 pm, bar from 7pm)

Sat 4th Feb           Trouble at' Mill             www.troubleatmill.com

TROUBLE at' MILL are a popular folk band who hail from The Village of Gregson between Preston & Blackburn. The band consists of husband and wife team - Graham & Bernadette Dixon, Bass Player - Denis Wane and our newest member Guitarist/Vocalist John Cruickshank.

Unashamedly concentrating on the 'popular' folk songs, TROUBLE at' MILL always place the emphasis on entertainment and make a point of not taking themselves too seriously. Their goal is to send the audience home with both, a smile on its face and an urge to seek out more live folk music.

Sat 3rd Mar         Jim Tracy entertains          www.reverbnation.com/

Making a welcome return appearance after 4 years is Jim Tracy, who has been singing country music around the UK for quite a few years now. Playing traditional classic country is his favourite style but he also plays some of the new up to date country-line dance songs . So whether you like to just sit back and listen to the likes of Jim Reeves, Willie Nelson, Marty Robbins, Hank Williams or Johnny Cash and many other oldies, then you can't go wrong.

If however you like to dance away the evening then there's plenty of line dance songs from The Mavericks, Toby Keith, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Hank Williams Jnr, George Jones, Buck Owens & even Gene Autry, Dean Martin & Daniel O'Donnell feature in Jim's massive repertoire. So there should be something for everyone.

Sat 31st March       Malkin Folk Quartet       www.malkinband.co.uk

The band proved so popular when they performed here in March 2010 that we asked them back.

Malkin perform with: Guitars, Fiddle, Bouzouki, Banjo, Mandolin, Flute, Whistles, Bodhran and Uillean pipes.
They play traditional and contemporary folk music with songs from a wide variety of sources and influences. Material is mostly English and Celtic in origin, both accompanied and unaccompanied, with some original compositions.

They specialise in three-part harmonies and interesting instrumental accompaniments, but also play lively jigs and reels and beautiful slow airs.

Sat 5th May     Howard Haigh and Lava     www.howardhaighmusic.com/

Howard Haigh and Lava present an evening of Latino Blues, Rumbas, Songs, perhaps a bit of dancing, and great guitar playing Acoustic music, lightly amplified, suitable for all ages of music-lovers

Returning once again to Whalley - the latest in over a decade of appearances here - Howard Haigh and Lava present another evening of fun, entertaining, lively music, with no compromise to the quality of the musicianship.

Howard on Spanish Guitar, Harmonica, miscellaneous surprise instruments, plugged in with occasional use of subtle fx.

Xtof Lheureux* brings his Gallic charm, percussion, songs and sense of fun, and Rick Middleton on the unusual Ukelele Bass, normal Ukelele, and some lovely songs. A mix of originals and great covers, virtuosic playing, audience participation (for those who like to get involved) ad the varied exotic ingredients make the Lava experience one to remember with a smile on your face!!

Sat 2nd Jun     Library Theatre Touring Company presents   'My Brilliant Divorce'   by Geraldine Aron

When Angela Lipsky’s husband has a mid-life crisis affair, she finds herself adrift in a sea of shifty solicitors, helpline counsellors, a disapproving mother and Christmas all on her own ...

Bizarre dates, suspect purchases, a near reconciliation with the ex, and a singles ‘away weekend’ that brings about a surprise meeting and maybe some hope.

Packed with amusing anecdotes, devastatingly honest and hugely empathic, this brilliantly observed play has ‘Angela’ attempting to find a new life when husband Max leaves her for a younger woman (Rosa - a Mexican with big hair who barely speaks English!).

Using a wonderful mixture of comedy and pathos ‘Angela’ recounts her journey back to happiness .....

My Brilliant Divorce was nominated for ‘Best Entertainment’ at the Olivier Awards after playing a sell-out season in the West End.
